Greetings Pittsboro Business Owner,
The Pittsboro Merchants Association (PMA) has been active for a few years working collaboratively with retail and non-retail businesses to make Pittsboro a destination for shopping, eating and goods and services of all kinds. We all benefit from making Pittsboro visible, attractive and accessible to the larger community. We hope
you'll be interested in participating in our on-going efforts to that end. Please consider
PMA's recent accomplishments and goals for the coming year. By joining today as a regular member,
you'll be sure to be included on the map in the next printing of the PMA brochure!
Recent Accomplishments:
a) Continued improvement of the First
Sunday event which has really put Pittsboro in the spotlight
each month.
b) Development of the Pittsboro Merchants Association brochure
& map and it's distribution to all 9 NC Welcome Centers as well as to
many individuals throughout the state.
c) Regular and consistent advertising and promotion of our
events in The Rambler (nationwide), The Durham/Chapel Hill
Herald, The Chatham News & The News & Observer.
d) Consistent promotion of Pittsboro as a
"destination location" in the region in order to
increase casual tourist traffic.
e) Periodic presentations to the Pittsboro Town Board to keep them informed of our
activities.
f) Development of a welcome packet to give to new residents when they move into the area to let them know what Pittsboro has to offer and to present them with
incentives to visit member stores (discount coupons, complimentary gifts for visiting,
etc.)
g) The PMA met in August with representatives of national travel magazines to show them
highlights of the county and answer questions and share information about Pittsboro.
PMA Goals for the upcoming year:
a) Continued refinement of the marketing
program to utilize the most effective marketing channels
available to us.
b) Developing a plan to improve the appearance of downtown
with particular attention to plantings, accent lighting in the
trees, informational kiosks, improved signage and possibly
decorative banners or signs, as we work with the town, volunteers and grantors.
c) Making the Pittsboro Holiday parade an event that offers broader appeal, is
professionally planned and provides more exposure to area businesses.

Pittsboro Merchants Association Membership
Categories & Benefits:
I. Regular Members ($360, $300 or $240/year)
Regular Members are primarily defined as those retail establishments
directly on or very close to the historic district on Hillsboro Street.
There are three payment tiers in this category and they are offered on
the honor system. The expectation is that all retail establishments
directly on Hillsboro Street will pay the $360 while nearby retail will
pay at the other two levels based on their proximity and visibility from
the center of town. Those paying the $360 can also choose to pay
quarterly--$100 each quarter.

*inclusion in Pittsboro Merchants directory on the PMA website
*linkage from www.pittsboroshops.com
to your website (if desired)
*opportunity to participate in PMA group advertising
*window signage indicating that you are a member of PMA
*participation in PMA promotional activities (such as First Sunday)
*goodwill of other merchants
*negotiation power as a result of being part of an organized group
*benefits resulting from the power of association such as information
sharing and networking
II. Supporters ($200/year)
Businesses such as banks, real estate brokers, insurance agencies and
lawyers who do not have "retail" storefronts but who would
benefit from the efforts of the Pittsboro Merchants Association
Benefits:
*inclusion in Pittsboro Merchants directory on the PMA website
*linkage from www.pittsboroshops.com to your website (if desired)
*opportunity to participate in PMA group advertising
*window signage indicating that you are a member of PMA
*participation in PMA promotional activities (such as First Sunday)
*goodwill of other merchants
*negotiation power as a result of being part of an organized group
*benefits resulting from the power of association such as information
sharing and networking
III. Friends ( $100/year)
Businesses in Pittsboro who would not benefit as much from the
efforts of the Association, but out of goodwill are willing to support
our efforts because they realize that a vibrant merchant community is
vital to Pittsboro

*window signage
*goodwill of other merchants
*negotiation power as a result of being part of an organized group
*benefits resulting from the power of association such as information
sharing and networking
